Zen Beach, Koh Phangan

Zen Beach, nestled on the west coast of Koh Phangan, Thailand, is a tranquil haven away from the island’s more crowded beaches. Known for its crystal-clear waters, soft white sands, and breathtaking views, especially at sunset, it is an ideal spot for those seeking solitude and relaxation.

Located in the Sri Thanu area, approximately 5.5 km from Thong Sala, Zen Beach can be reached easily by renting a scooter or hiring a taxi.

Although Zen Beach is relatively small, its charm lies in its tranquility. The calm waters make it perfect for swimming or simply lazing around in the sun​. The beach is also popular for meditation and yoga, particularly at sunset. The Grasshopper Beach Bar often plays ambient chill music, creating a serene atmosphere that encourages relaxation and mindfulness. Visitors may also encounter acro yoga enthusiasts practicing their skills near the bar at sunset​.

The far north of Zen Beach is a nudist area for those who want to sunbathe without tan lines​. A few accommodations are also available, with Zen Bungalows being the most famous. These mid-range bungalows are located right on Zen Beach’s edge and just steps away from the sand​.

Visitors can indulge in a massage at Dawan Massage Zen Beach, located next to the Grasshopper Beach Bar. A Thai massage here costs around 300 baht for an hour​.

A few beach chairs and umbrellas are available outside the Grasshopper Beach Bar, which also serves simple Thai food and drinks. Although there are no public bathrooms or showers, the restaurant’s toilet can be used by beachgoers. A 7/11 is just a short walk away on the main road​ for additional snacks and drinks.

Visitors are advised to bring their own beach necessities as Zen Beach is somewhat secluded. It’s also recommended to watch out for rocks while swimming, respect the environment, visit during sunset for the best views, and have a backup plan in case the beach gets too crowded. There’s ample parking available at Zen Beach, but using the overflow parking is suggested to avoid getting blocked in.
