Bueng Kan Guide

Thailand's newest province featuring the iconic red lotus sea, Mekong River views, and untouched natural beauty.

Overview of Bueng Kan

Bueng Kan is Thailand’s newest province, established in 2011 and located in the country’s remote northeast along the Mekong River. The province is rapidly gaining recognition for its stunning natural attractions, particularly the red lotus sea at Nong Kut Ting lake, where thousands of pink water lilies bloom between December and February.
The province borders Laos and offers spectacular Mekong River viewpoints, limestone caves, and pristine forests. Wat Phu Tok, a Buddhist temple built into a sandstone outcrop with wooden walkways and ladders, provides one of Thailand’s most unique spiritual experiences. The area remains largely undiscovered by international tourists, offering authentic cultural encounters and unspoiled landscapes.
