Thailand’s largest freshwater lake, is an ecological marvel spanning an impressive 212.38 square kilometres across three districts; Mueang Nakhon Sawan, Tha Tako, and Chum Saeng. Known as the “North Sea” or “Great Lake,” this natural sanctuary hosts an astounding diversity of life, including 148 species of animals and 44 types of plants. It’s a haven for rare species; such as, white-eyed river martin and Siamese Tiger Fish. During November to March, it becomes a temporary home for migrating fluttering grebes. This vast lake is a vital habitat for various waterfowl, like Anatinae, Purple Swamphen, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, and Asian openbills with their egg-laying season extending from July to March. Certain area is a designated no-hunting zone. Bueng Boraphet is managed by the Conservation Administration Office 12 of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Visitors can also explore the Bueng Boraphet Fishery Development Station.
