Chainat Bird Park

Chai Nat Bird Park opened in 1983 as Asia’s largest aviary, spread across roughly 248 rai on Phahonyothin Road in Tambon Khao Tha Phra. More than 100 bird species still live inside its huge walk-through cage, alongside 60-plus smaller enclosures. Entry is 150 THB for foreign adults (75 THB for children) and 60 THB for Thai adults (25 THB for children); the park runs daily 08:00–18:00, with the aquarium closing an hour earlier at 17:00.

Beyond the main aviary, the grounds hold a snake park, a rabbit park, small wild-animal enclosures, and a scatter of man-made waterfalls and gardens threaded between them. A pavilion set in the middle of a pond gives shade partway round, and the on-site aquarium keeps freshwater fish native to the Chao Phraya River — the same river system the park sits beside in Chainat. A newer water-play zone has since been added within the grounds for a small extra fee, alongside the park’s original Science Center and Planetarium, built right next to the aviary.

Shops near the entrance sell local handicrafts — wickerwork and carved-bird souvenirs — plus fruit and snacks, so there’s little need to bring your own food for a half-day visit. Morning is the liveliest time to walk the aviary, before the midday heat sends the birds into the shade; ask staff at the gate for that day’s feeding-round schedule, since keepers scatter fruit through the walk-through section and the birds crowd close enough for photos without much of a zoom lens.

Insider Tip: Do the aquarium first, not last — it closes at 17:00, a full hour before the rest of the park, and it’s easy to run out of time if you save it for the end of the visit.

Watch out: The walking circuit has limited shade between sections — bring water and a hat, especially if you’re visiting April–May, when Chai Nat’s hot season pushes daytime temperatures well past 35°C.

The park sits on Highway 1, about 7 km along the Chai Nat–Takhli route: from Bangkok, take Highway 32 to the Chai Nat–Takhli junction, turn onto Highway 1, and the park is on the right after about 7 km. On-site parking is free; call 0 5647 6624 for group bookings or to confirm current hours.
