Located in Sala Daeng Subdistrict about 2 kilometres from downtown Ang Thong, stands Wat Sang Kra Tai, once known as Wat Sam Kratai. Founded by Thuat Ti Chanthana Saewi, this temple was once a vibrant centre of monastic life. Yet, over time, internal discord among the clergy led to a decline in faith, and the temple fell into disuse, devoid of resident monks. Now, only vestiges remain of its ancient ordination hall (ubosot), embraced by the roots of four Bodhi trees, creating a striking visual spectacle. These roots intricately intertwine with the ubosot’s walls at the four corners, a testament to the passage of time and the resilience of nature. Within the temple grounds lie three chambers, with the central one enshrining the principal Buddha image alongside two smaller Buddha statues. An unseen marvel of this temple is a window opening directly onto the principal Buddha image, supported by the sturdy roots of the Bodhi trees.
