There’s also the chance to try some great tasting, organic local dishes and meet an award-winning-looking doctor with an encyclopedic knowledge of Thai herbs. Visitors can find out about his carminative herbal remedy for flatulence, useful herbs found in velvet grass and how to make herbal compresses. There are also boat trips across the bay where visitors can check out the native sea grasses which have evolved to suit their surroundings. Locals here use natural materials like betel husks, teak leaves, corn beefwood, Indian almond leaves to fashion dining utensils in order to reduce the use of plastic and foam which harms the environment. These eco-friendly utensils also create income for the villagers as part of a project established and funded by CPF (Charoen Pokhpand Foods) Ltd.
