Laem Ngop Viewpoint
จุดชมวิวแหลมงอบ
Laem Ngop Viewpoint is on the Trat mainland, not on Koh Chang itself. It’s a roadside lookout beside Laem Ngop pier, marked by a red-and-white striped lighthouse and a large freestanding “TRAT” sign — plus a second sign marking this stretch of coast as the “Eastern End of the Land.” Entry is free and there’s no gate or set closing time.
The lighthouse and the two signs are the main draw, and between them they make this one of the more photographed roadside stops in Trat Province. The pier alongside still sees a handful of local fishing boats come and go, and on a clear afternoon you can pick out the hills of Koh Chang and smaller islands sitting out across the Gulf. It’s a flat, easy stop — no climb, no trail, just a short walk from where you park to the lookout rail.
Insider Tip: Time it for the hour before sunset. The lighthouse and signs photograph fine at midday, but the light over the water and the silhouette of Koh Chang in the distance is far better late in the day.
Because this sits in Laem Ngop district — the mainland town most travellers pass through on the way to the Koh Chang ferry piers — it works well as a five-minute stop before or after a crossing, rather than a destination to build a trip around on its own. The surrounding district also has a couple of small community-tourism stops worth combining it with if you have an afternoon to spare on the mainland side.
Watch out: Don’t come expecting an island beach viewpoint or a hike — this is a flat lookout next to a working pier and a main road. If you’re picturing a jungle trail or a cliff walk, that’s a different attraction; this one is about the lighthouse, the signs, and the view across the water.
- Location: Mainland Trat (Laem Ngop district), not on Koh Chang island
- Entry: Free, open access, no fixed hours
- What’s there: Lighthouse, “TRAT” sign, “Eastern End of the Land” marker, working pier
- Best time: Late afternoon to sunset
- Nearby: Laem Ngop’s ferry piers and mainland community-tourism villages
Laem Ngop Viewpoint pairs naturally with a stop at the mainland communities nearby before you catch the ferry — Ban Nam Chiao Community, where you can watch ngob nam chiao hats being woven, and Laemmakham Community, a mixed Muslim-Buddhist village a short drive away. Both sit in the same district as the viewpoint. For everything else in the area, the Koh Chang destination guide covers the island and its mainland gateway together.
