Bo Lek Nam Phi Museum, Sukhothai

Inaugurated on 12 August 1999, the museum retains two sites where ore was once extracted. Ores from one of these two sources, “Bo Phra Saeng” are reserved to be used to make swords for the king only. While those extracted from “Bo Phra Khan” were used to fashion weapons for kings in the past. Presently, ore extraction is permitted from both sites. Additionally,  visitors will find Chao Pho Bo Lek Nam Phi shrine, located north of these  two sites. Legend has it that the holy spirit of Pu Thammarat resides in this shrine and protects both Bo Phra Saeng and Bo Phra Khan. The shrine is built in a new Thai-style architecture, featuring white exteriors and marble flooring. It houses three deity statues, all cast in Nam Phi iron, symbolising the spiritual anchor for the Nam Phi community. The surrounding area is adorned with decorative plants and flowers, and there are shops selling souvenirs and amulets made from Nam Phi iron. Open daily 08.00-17.00 hrs.
