Laplae Museum

Laplae Museum tells the history of Laplae — a district known across Thailand for its langsat and longkong orchards — through the life of the local official who shaped it. Entry is free, and it’s open daily, roughly 08:30-17:30, in Si Phanom Mat subdistrict.

The museum centres on Phra Si Phanommat, who held the Thai civil-service rank of Ammat Tri and served as agricultural chief for the Phitsanulok monthon (administrative region) in the early 20th century. Under his direction, Laplae got its first formal town plan, its irrigation system anchored by the Luang Dam — a weir still referenced in local water management today — expanded schooling, and organised agricultural development: the kind of infrastructure that turned a scattered farming district into a functioning town. The exhibits lay this out across two main buildings, one devoted to his biography and the district’s history, the other to eight themes of traditional Laplae daily life — dress, food, customs, crafts, and more.

A separate room, Tham Mueang Laplae, holds a scale model of the old town, giving a sense of how the settlement was laid out before modern roads and buildings replaced most of the original structures. It’s a useful stop before or after visiting the district’s surviving heritage sites, since it explains context — why particular temples or houses sit where they do — that’s easy to miss on a drive-through.
