Only traces of the city wall remain to hint at the great expanse of this thousand year-old ancient ruin. Avid travellers will see similarities in its city walls to other ancient cities-Nakhon Pathom, MuangSema of Nakhon Ratchasima and Muang Phaya Rae of Chonburi. Founded in the Thawarawadi period between 457 and 957 AD, locals originally called it Ban Khok Mai Den Muang Bon, borrowing its name from an indigenous tree. All that remains are the city wall and artifacts, including a sculpture of the famed elephant Phaya Chattan. The ancient site is 32 kilometers from the city on the Nakhon Sawan-Bangkok route (Asian Highway). Turn left into Khok Mai Den for three kilometers to arrive at the ruins.
