Compare walkable places to stay
5 spotsSoi Taied (also written Soi Ta-iad, Soi Taiad and Ta-Eiad Road) is a roughly 1.5-kilometre training street in Chalong, southern Phuket. Muay Thai pads crack from open-air gyms before breakfast; by mid-morning, the cafés fill with people comparing bruises, meal-prep boxes and tomorrow’s class schedule.
The appeal is concentration. You can sleep, train, eat, recover and buy gloves without leaving the street. The tradeoff is location: this is an inland fitness base, not a beach holiday with a gym attached.
Insider Tip: Book your first three nights close to the centre of the soi, then try drop-ins at two or three gyms before committing to a weekly or monthly package. Coaching style and class size matter more than the logo on the T-shirt.
Quick answer
Choose Tiger Muay Thai for the broadest mix of Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, boxing, yoga and conditioning in one large facility. Pick Dragon Muay Thai for a smaller, Thai-owned camp focused on traditional technique, or Lions MMA when BJJ and MMA matter as much as striking. For strength and hard group conditioning, start with Unit 27; for independent weight training, compare Superfit.
Stay on Soi Taied if training is the main reason for the trip. Happy Cottage is the quiet-value choice, Cocoville is the strongest all-round resort base, and Signature is the more comfortable step up. If you want daily sand and sunsets, base yourself in Karon or Rawai and accept the commute.

How to choose a Soi Taied gym
| Best for | Gym | Current training focus | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|

How we picked these gyms and stays
We reviewed the live operator pages for Tiger Muay Thai, Dragon Muay Thai, Lions MMA, Unit 27 and Superfit on 15 July 2026, prioritising current timetables, stated disciplines and published prices over old review articles. Schedules and coaches change, so use this table to narrow the field and confirm your chosen session with the gym.
The hotel shortlist uses Thai Holiday Guide’s accommodation records refreshed in June 2026. The price bands are relative to other stays on and around the soi, not fixed nightly rates; dates, room type and season can move the actual price sharply.
The main Muay Thai and MMA gyms
Tiger Muay Thai: the broadest programme
Tiger Muay Thai is the street’s anchor and the simplest answer if two people want different disciplines. Its operator describes a 9,600-square-metre facility with separate Muay Thai areas, an MMA/BJJ space and an air-conditioned yoga room. Its published timetable (checked 31 July 2026) runs classes Monday-Friday from a 06:30 start to a last session ending 19:30, a reduced Saturday programme from roughly 08:00 to 17:00, and no classes on Sunday.
The scale is both the advantage and the drawback. You get more timetable choice and a bigger training community, but a large mixed-level class will not feel like a small trainer-led camp. Arrive early, tell the coach your experience honestly and test the relevant class before buying a month.
Dragon Muay Thai: smaller and technique-led
Dragon Muay Thai is a Thai-owned open-air camp on the soi. Its current course page lists morning and afternoon training from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday as the rest day. The operator lists a single group session at 300 THB and two sessions in a day at 500 THB.
Choose Dragon if you want traditional technique and a less corporate setting. Read the booking conditions first: the gym states that training and accommodation payments follow a strict no-refund policy, including missed training caused by illness or injury.
Lions MMA Club: best for grappling variety
Lions MMA Club runs Muay Thai, BJJ, MMA, boxing and wrestling from one facility. Its July 2026 site lists a 450 THB drop-in, weekday opening from 08:00-20:00, Saturday 08:00-16:00 and Sunday closed.
This is the clearer shortlist choice when no-gi grappling or MMA is central to the trip. Check the day-by-day timetable rather than assuming every discipline runs whenever the building is open.
Apollo and other smaller fight gyms
Apollo Gym adds another Muay Thai and boxing option, with Apollo Camp accommodation beside the training space. Smaller gyms can offer more trainer contact, but staffing and group size change week to week. Visit during the exact session you plan to attend and watch how much correction beginners receive.
Gyms such as AKA Thailand, Phuket Fight Club and Southside MMA are elsewhere in southern Phuket, not on the walkable Soi Taied strip. Our Thailand Muay Thai camp guide compares Phuket with training bases around the country.
Strength, conditioning and open-gym training
Unit 27: coached conditioning
Unit 27 is the street’s established conditioning specialist. Its current timetable includes HYROX, CrossFit, strength sessions, open gym, swim-based workouts, sauna and ice-bath access. Classes are structured and social, but names such as The Punisher and Death Row are a fair warning about the intended intensity.
Complete beginners can join, yet the sensible move is to start below your normal effort. Phuket’s heat, extra walking and doubled training volume turn an ordinary session into a bigger recovery demand.
Superfit: weights and cardio on your schedule
Superfit is the straightforward option for independent lifting. The gym lists strength equipment, cardio and a smoothie bar; its July 2026 membership page shows a 250 THB day pass and 2,200 THB for one month.
Use it to keep a familiar strength programme or add controlled accessory work around Muay Thai. It is less suitable if you want every session coached.
How to plan your first training week
The common mistake is treating day one like fight camp. Start with one class a day, then add volume only after you know how your sleep, shins, shoulders and appetite respond. Two-a-day Muay Thai plus conditioning can wait.
A balanced first week might mean three Muay Thai sessions, one strength or conditioning class and at least one full rest day. Keep the remaining time for walking the soi, sorting equipment and visiting Wat Chalong rather than collecting five gym memberships.
Safety Tip: If you rent a scooter, confirm that your licence and travel insurance cover motorcycle riding in Thailand, wear a helmet and do not ride when exhausted after training. Taxis or ride-hailing are the safer default for beach trips and airport transfers.
Where to stay on Soi Taied
Choose the gym first, then check the walking route from the hotel entrance. A property can share a Chalong postcode with your camp and still sit beyond a busy junction. A pool is genuinely useful for cooling down; a large resort gym is less important when you are paying to train elsewhere.
Best quiet-value stay

Happy Cottage
Pick this when you want a simple room, a pool and a quieter place to recover between sessions. It keeps you close to the gyms without paying for resort extras you may barely use.

Best all-round training base

Cocoville Phuket
Cocoville works well for a longer training block: separate villas, a pool and breakfast choices including vegan and vegetarian options. The setting feels more like a small resort than a basic fight-camp room.
- Area
- Central Soi Taied · 10/23-30 Moo 5, Soi Ta-iad
- Price
- Mid-range
Best for a more comfortable room

Signature Phuket Resort
Choose Signature when the room and pool matter as much as the training. Its villa-style layout is a step up from the street's basic stays, but the two-person room setup is less useful for larger groups.
- Area
- Soi Taied · 10/40-41 Moo 5, Soi Ta-Eiad
- Price
- Upper mid-range
Best for pool-access rooms

The Fusion Resort
Fusion is the practical middle ground if you want a pool-access room or need space for three in its family bungalow. It suits travellers who want hotel comforts but still plan to walk to training.

- Soi Taied · 7/7 Soi Ta-Eiad

Best budget base near the soi

Forest Bungalows
This is the budget pick for a greener, less polished base near the training street. Check the exact route to your chosen gym before booking; "near Soi Taied" can still mean an awkward walk in the heat.

Food and recovery between sessions
Soi Taied’s food scene is built around training: eggs and rice early, smoothies after class, lean Thai plates, vegan bowls and meal-prep boxes later in the day. Unit 27’s current stay-and-train package even includes macro-counted meals, while Superfit operates a smoothie bar.
Do not assume every dish labelled “healthy” is light or accurately calorie-counted. If you have a strict target, ask for sauces and dressings separately and choose simple dishes where the ingredients are visible. Walk one street away from the main strip when you want ordinary local Thai food rather than another protein bowl.
Recovery businesses change faster than the big gyms. Compare what is actually included, ask who provides physiotherapy or sports massage, and treat ice baths and saunas as optional comforts rather than fixes for an injury.
Getting there and getting around
Soi Taied runs off Chao Fa West Road in Chalong. From Phuket International Airport, allow about 45-60 minutes by taxi in light traffic and more during the late-afternoon peak. A pre-booked transfer or metered airport taxi is simpler than combining public transport with luggage.
The training street itself is walkable, but it is hot, narrow in places and busy with scooters. Pick accommodation near your main gym so daily life works on foot. Use a taxi or ride-hailing for Phuket Old Town, the west-coast beaches and evening trips.
High season from November to April brings drier training weather and more people. The wetter May-October period can mean better room value, but outdoor sessions feel more humid and sudden rain makes scooter travel less appealing.
Is Soi Taied right for your Phuket trip?
Stay here when training determines the day and beach time is the optional extra. The street makes a one- to four-week fitness block unusually easy because the gym, room, food and recovery are close together.
Look elsewhere if you want to step from breakfast onto sand, dress up for nightlife or explore a different part of Phuket every day. A split stay often works better: train on Soi Taied first, then move to Karon, Kata or Rawai once the gloves come off.
