‘Ko Yao’ is about 3 kilometres from Tak Bai town. One side of the island connects to the Gulf of Thailand, whereas the other side connects to the Tak Bai River. The island is 9 kilometres long, and the beach area is lined with beautiful coconut trees. Most of the population is Muslim, who conduct fishing and coconut plantations. In addition to this, there is ‘100-Year Khoi Bridge’, which in the past, travelling from Ko Yao to the Tak Bai District Office required a boat. Before the construction of a wooden bridge between Ko Yao and the district office, the villagers had to wait 100 years; hence, the name of the bridge. Currently there is a new construction of a beautiful cement bridge along with the original wooden bridge across to Ko Yao.
