Chao Mae Tomo Shrine
‘Chao Mae Tomo’ is the goddess of the sea. Chao Mae Machu or Chao Mae Thapthim is the same goddess. There is a legend that tells the story of the origin. At the gold mine at Khao Tomo, Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province, the villagers initially set up a shrine in that area. Later a shrine was established in Su-ngai Kolok District, which was named as the shrine of the original source, which was Khao Tomo that has now changed to the name of Phu Khao Thong Subdistrict. Originally, Chao Mae Tomo was enshrined at Ban To Mo, Sukhirin District. Later it was brought to be enshrined at Su-ngai Kolok District on 15 January 1952. The Chao Mae Tomo Shrine is revered by the people of Su-ngai Kolok and in nearby provinces, including Chinese people in Malaysia. Every year, during the third month of the Chinese calendar (April), there will be a traditional event at the Shrine. There are many activities; such as. a parade of goddesses, a lion procession, a parade of Engor, a long drum procession, and a wading fire ceremony etc. Open daily 06.00-18.00 hrs.
