Wat Mani Chonlakhan, Lop Buri

Interesting tourist attractions are as follows: Chedi Luang Pho Saeng, a towering whitewashed square based pagoda visible from afar. It resembles the pagodas of ancient Chiang Saen (Lanna), revered greatly by the people of Lop Buri province and neighbouring areas. According to a record by Somdet Krom Phraya Damrong Rajanubhab, this pagoda was built by Luang Pho Saeng, or Phra Achan Saeng, the teacher of Somdet Phutthachan (To Phromrangsi), during the reign of King Rama IV. Si Maha Pho tree, the sacred Bodhi tree, was nurtured from seeds brought to the temple and planted by His Majesty King Rama V the Great. This temple has been of great importance since ancient times, being a royal temple receiving royal patronage from kings and royal families. Moreover, its geographical location on an island surrounded by water makes it suitable for royal visits, attracting many dignitaries who come to offer alms and seek blessings.
