Wat Phutiwhat, Satun

Located on Rattanakit Road and is a beautiful temple standing tall on a hill. The principal Buddha image in the Ubosot is a lifelike figure like Luang Pu Thuat stepping on fresh water. Inside the temple is enshrined Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Phuttha Thamma Prakat that was built in the applied Srivijaya art style of glittering gold. It is 39.9 metres tall. The interior contains the Buddha’s relics, which was built to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on the occasion of her 60th Birthday Anniversary. From the courtyard of the chedi, it is possible to see another beautiful view of the temple and Betong city. In addition, inside the temple is enshrined Phra Phuttha Thammakaya Mongkhon Payurakesanon Suphaphithan that is a large attractive bronze Buddha image from China. It is an important sacred object of Buddhism in Betong.

  • Visit early morning to see monks collecting alms.
  • Dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees. Sarongs may be available at the entrance.
  • Remove your shoes before entering any building.
