Crystal-clear waters surround this uninhabited cluster of small islands off Ko Kut’s eastern coast, creating one of Trat’s most pristine marine environments. Muko Rang consists of several rocky outcrops and tiny islets that rise dramatically from the turquoise sea, their limestone formations carved by centuries of wind and waves. The islands remain largely untouched by development, offering visitors a glimpse of Thailand’s coastline as it existed decades ago.
Snorkeling around these islands reveals vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical fish, from colorful parrotfish to schools of silver snappers darting between the rocks. The shallow reefs make underwater exploration accessible to beginners, while the clear visibility often extends beyond 15 meters. Above water, you’ll spot various seabirds nesting on the rocky cliffs, and the sound of waves gently lapping against limestone creates a natural soundtrack. Small caves and crevices in the rock formations provide shelter for marine life and add intrigue to swimming sessions.
Tranquility defines the Muko Rang experience, with only the occasional longtail boat breaking the peaceful silence. The absence of crowds and commercial development creates an almost meditative atmosphere where time seems to slow down. Standing on your boat deck surrounded by these ancient limestone pillars, you’ll feel wonderfully isolated from the modern world. The play of light and shadow on the water throughout the day transforms the seascape into an ever-changing natural gallery.
Visit during the dry season from November to April for the calmest seas and best visibility for snorkeling. Charter a longtail boat from Ko Kut’s main piers – the journey takes about 30 minutes depending on your departure point. Bring snorkeling gear, sun protection, and plenty of water since no facilities exist on the islands. This makes an excellent half-day trip combined with other nearby islands, offering some of Thailand’s best accessible marine life viewing in a completely natural setting.
