Adventure in Thailand
49 tours across 12 destinations
Thailand's mountains and jungles support a broader adventure offering than the beach image suggests. Above Chiang Mai, you can zipline through canopy (Flight of the Gibbon and Skyline Jungle Luge are the two signature operators), raft whitewater on the Mae Taeng, or trek multi-day through Karen hill-tribe country. Krabi's limestone cliffs hold Railay, one of the best tropical rock-climbing venues in the world — all grades, routes bolted. ATV and buggy tours run almost everywhere with a mountain nearby: Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui.

Adventure in Thailand — FAQ
Do I need experience for zipline or rock climbing tours?
No. Both have beginner courses that cover safety, basic technique, and a guided run. Railay rock climbing beginner courses start with bolted routes graded 5a-5c — most first-timers top out in a half day.
What are the weight and age limits?
Ziplines: typically 120kg max, minimum age 4-5. ATVs: minimum age varies (usually 12+ with adult, 18+ solo). Whitewater rafting: 8+ most operators. Confirm exact limits at booking — a turned-away traveller on the day is a bad start.
Is insurance included?
Operators carry their own liability insurance but it is basic. Your personal travel insurance should cover adventure sports — SafetyWing, World Nomads, and Heymondo all include trekking, rafting, and ziplining by default. Double-check scuba and motorbike coverage separately.
What should I wear for adventure tours?
Closed-toe shoes (trainers or approach shoes for climbing). Quick-dry shorts or trousers. Moisture-wicking shirt. A dry bag for phone and wallet on water tours. Long trousers if the tour includes jungle trek — mosquitoes and scratchy vegetation.
