This 7.5-hour speedboat adventure takes you deep into Phang Nga Bay’s incredible limestone karst landscape, where towering rock formations jut straight out of emerald waters. The real magic happens during the sea kayaking portion—paddling through hidden caves into secret lagoons feels like discovering your own private world. James Bond Island delivers that iconic photo op you’re expecting, but honestly, the lunch at Koh Panyee blew me away more. Picture eating authentic Thai food in a floating village built on stilts, with a massive rock wall rising behind you. The speedboat itself is surprisingly comfortable with 2-3 engines, and you’ll appreciate that power when you’re cruising between islands with the wind in your hair.

Andaman Leisure picks you up early from your Phuket hotel and brings you to their Boat Lagoon office—arrive 30 minutes before departure for the briefing. With a maximum of 15 people, the group stays intimate enough that your English-speaking guide can actually answer questions and help with photos. The pace feels relaxed despite hitting multiple stops: you’ll explore the “rooms” (hongs) inside Koh Hong, snap those famous shots at James Bond Island, enjoy lunch at the floating village of Koh Panyee, then kayak through mangrove forests before ending with beach time at Koh Rang Yai. If weather doesn’t cooperate, they’ll swap Koh Rang Yai for Naka Island. Everything flows smoothly—buffet lunch, drinks, fruits, and kayak equipment are all included.

Insider Tip: Book this tour during Thailand’s dry season (November-April) for the calmest seas and clearest skies. The speedboat can handle some chop, but you’ll enjoy the kayaking much more when conditions are settled.

This tour suits most fitness levels since it’s rated as easy difficulty, earning 4.9 out of 5 stars from 12 reviews. However, skip it if you’re pregnant, have back problems, or cardiovascular issues—that speedboat ride can get bouncy. At $109.92, it’s solid value considering the small group size and 7+ hour duration. Just budget extra for entrance fees and tips, which aren’t included.

Safety Tip: Life jackets are provided and mandatory during all water activities—don’t remove them even if you’re a strong swimmer.

Itinerary

1

Get picked up in the early morning from your hotel in Phuket by Andaman Leisure and meet the boat crew at Phuket Boat Lagoon including a quick COVID-19 screening and a short briefing about the trip.

2

Then cruise on a comfortable speedboat with 2 or 3 engines (with 20 resp. 30 seats) into the sheer limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay that jut vertically out of the emerald-green water.

3

Make a stop at Koh Hong, and explore the hongs ('rooms' in Thai) that lie inside the island. These microcosms, hidden realms rich in unspoiled flora and fauna, are collapsed cave systems open to the sky and surrounded by towering limestone walls.

4

Continue to James Bond Island, also called Koh Ta-pu ('Nail Island' in Thai), first found its way onto the international map through its starring role in the James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). With its signature rocky pinnacle, the entire area surrounding this island is indeed spectacular.

5

Enjoy a Thai style lunch on Koh Panyee, a remarkable village - it's built out over the water, with a giant rock monolith guarding its rear. The hundreds of huts, shacks, restaurants and houses where the villagers live are built on stilts over the surrounding shallow sea.

6

After sightseeing of the unique mangrove forest by speedboat, try sea-kayaking, where you paddle sturdy fibreglass boats through caves into the mysterious heart of Koh Panak Island and Diamond Cave.

7

The last stop will be on Koh Rang Yai, a peaceful island about 5 km off the east coast of Phuket with a 1-km-long beach that's perfect to relax and swim in very warm waters - usually between 25°C to 35°C.

8

If the sea conditions are not good enough, you will alternatively make a stop at Naka Island for some beach time.
