Baan Kang Wat is a small creative village of wooden shophouses tucked down Soi Wat Umong in the Suthep neighbourhood of Chiang Mai, a short ride from the old city. Built to feel like a traditional Lanna lane, its timber units are given over to ceramicists, textile makers, illustrators and other artisans, with cafés and a bookshop filling the gaps. It is a relaxed place to browse handmade work and watch makers at the bench.
Studios sell hand-thrown pottery, indigo-dyed and naturally dyed cloth, handmade jewellery, prints and toys, much of it made on site. Several spaces run drop-in workshops, and the courtyards are dotted with plants, swings and quiet corners for a coffee. On Sundays a morning market (roughly 08:00–13:00) brings extra stalls of food, plants and crafts, and a livelier crowd.
The village keeps an unhurried, arty mood rather than a hard-sell one, and pairs naturally with a visit to neighbouring Wat Umong. Most units open from late morning to early evening, Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays), and entry is free. Come by songthaew, Grab or bicycle from the centre, and bring cash for the smaller stalls.
