Where Phuket’s coast meets pristine wilderness, Sirinat National Park protects 90 square kilometers of untouched beaches, mangrove forests, and coral reefs. This coastal sanctuary encompasses three of the island’s most beautiful beaches – Nai Yang, Nai Thon, and Mai Khao – offering visitors a rare chance to experience Phuket’s natural environment before tourism development. The park serves as a crucial nesting ground for sea turtles and provides habitat for over 180 bird species.
Mai Khao Beach stretches for 11 kilometers as Thailand’s longest beach, where you’ll walk on soft sand backed by casuarina trees swaying in ocean breezes. The mangrove boardwalks wind through dense forests where you can spot colorful kingfishers, herons, and mudskippers scurrying across exposed roots at low tide. Snorkeling around the coral reefs reveals tropical fish darting between hard corals, while the forest trails offer glimpses of monitor lizards, flying foxes, and if you’re fortunate, dolphins playing offshore. During turtle nesting season (November to February), rangers conduct evening walks to observe these ancient mariners laying eggs.
Tranquility defines the Sirinat experience, especially compared to Phuket’s busier beaches. Morning mist drifts across the mangroves while bird calls echo through the forest canopy. The rhythmic sound of waves creates a natural soundtrack as you explore relatively empty beaches where footprints in sand might be yours alone. Even the visitor center maintains this peaceful atmosphere, with informative displays about marine conservation that connect you deeper to this protected ecosystem.
Visit during the dry season (November to April) for the best weather and turtle nesting opportunities. The park opens daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with entry fees of 200 baht for foreign adults and 100 baht for children. Camping facilities are available for overnight stays with advance booking. Bring sun protection, water, and comfortable walking shoes for the trails. Public transportation reaches the park entrance, though renting a scooter offers more flexibility to explore different beach sections.
