Had Rin Beach

Home to the famous full moon party and a beautiful white sand beach

Had Rin is the southeastern tip of Koh Phangan and the epicentre of Thailand’s Full Moon Party scene. The narrow peninsula has two beaches — Haad Rin Nok (Sunrise Beach) on the east, where the party happens, and Haad Rin Nai (Sunset Beach) on the west, which is quieter and has better swimming outside of party nights.

The Full Moon Party

The monthly Full Moon Party on Sunrise Beach draws 10,000-30,000 people depending on the season. Bars line the sand with sound systems, fire shows and neon body paint. The party runs from around 9pm until dawn. Little Paradise Resort (8.6 on Agoda) is one of the better-reviewed options within walking distance.

Outside party nights, Had Rin is a compact backpacker town with cheap food, dive shops and a relaxed daytime vibe. The rest of Koh Phangan — north and west coast — is calmer and attracts a different crowd entirely.

Getting There

Speedboats and ferries run from Koh Samui’s Big Buddha Pier (30 minutes) and Surat Thani’s Don Sak Pier (2.5 hours via Koh Samui or direct). Had Rin is the first or last stop for most Koh Phangan ferry routes.

Insider Tip: Book accommodation months ahead for December and January Full Moon Parties. Prices triple and everything within walking distance of the beach sells out. If you’re not there for the party, stay on Koh Phangan’s north coast instead — it’s a different island.
