Ananda Yoga & Detox Center in Hin Kong, on the west coast of Koh Phangan, has been running detox programmes for over 20 years. This cleanse lasts 12 nights: an 11-day liquid fast, then a short return to food. It is a fasting programme first. The yoga and meditation are gentle and optional.

Key Facts:
  • Duration: 13 days, 12 nights, with flexible start dates
  • Fast: 11 days on juice, broth, coconut water and detox shakes
  • Daily: Thai or oil massage, colema, herbal steam sauna
  • Classes: morning meditation or pranayama, afternoon yin or restorative yoga
  • Rooms: private garden rooms, elevated bungalows or sea-view bungalows

A day on the fast

The day is built around a fixed timetable of drinks and herbs. Detox shakes arrive at 7:30am and every few hours after that, with herbs, a green juice at noon and coconut water in the afternoon. One vegetable broth is part of each day too. A 45-minute guided meditation or pranayama class is at 8am, a Thai massage at 9:15, a colema late morning (a second in the evening is optional), a herbal steam sauna at 2:30pm and yin or restorative yoga at 4:30pm. The colema is a self-administered colon cleanse done in a private room that staff prepare and clean between sessions.

Breaking the fast

When you break the fast, two meals at the centre’s restaurant, The Shell, are included. It faces the sunset and puts on live music as the sun goes down. Ananda also asks guests to eat more simply for two to seven days before they arrive and to avoid stressful activities beforehand.

The setting

Hin Kong is a quiet stretch of the island with beach walks and sunsets over the sea. Rooms are simple Thai-style and all private, and the centre has a saltwater pool, a steam sauna and an ice bath.

Watch out: a long fast with daily colon cleansing is not medical treatment and doesn’t suit everyone. Talk to your doctor first if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or take regular medication.

Who it’s for

Eleven days without solid food is a serious commitment, and the timetable is strict and supervised from the first shake to the last probiotic at 9pm. If you would rather eat well and exercise, pick a wellness retreat instead.

Insider Tip: the balance is due on arrival and the centre prefers Thai baht cash. Card payments carry a 3% fee, so bring cash or arrange a transfer.

Getting there

Fly to Samui (USM), which is about a 30-minute boat ride from Koh Phangan. Ananda doesn’t run transfers, but the centre is about 10 minutes by taxi from the pier. Check-in is at 2pm and check-out at 11:30am.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the fast on Ananda's 13-day retreat?
Eleven days. The guided juice fast sits inside the 13-day, 12-night stay and is followed by post-fast meals at the centre's restaurant.
What is a colema?
A self-administered colon cleanse using gravity-fed water rather than a machine. Ananda includes one a day, with an optional second, in a private room cleaned between sessions.
Do I have to join the yoga classes?
No. Morning meditation or pranayama and the afternoon yin or restorative yoga are optional. The fasting schedule, massage and colemas are the core of the programme.
How do I pay the balance?
The remaining balance is due on arrival, preferably in Thai baht cash. Bank transfer, Wise and card payments are accepted, with a 3% fee on cards.
Is the deposit refundable?
Only inside the 72-hour free cancellation window after booking, or if government restrictions force the cancellation. Arriving late, leaving early or not finishing the programme earns no refund either.
