Getting There

Khao Lak sits about 80 kilometers north of Phuket, making Phuket International Airport your most convenient entry point. From there, you’re looking at roughly 1.5 hours by road - either private transfer, taxi, or bus. Many visitors rent cars in Phuket for the drive north, which gives you flexibility to explore the coastline at your own pace.

Alternatively, you can fly into Bangkok and take a domestic connection to Phuket, or make the overland journey by bus from Bangkok to Khao Lak directly, though that’s a longer commitment at around 12 hours. The road connections are good, and the journey from Phuket airport is straightforward along well-maintained coastal highways.

Best Time to Visit

Being on the Andaman coast, Khao Lak experiences its wet season from May through October. This is when you’ll see heavy rainfall, rough seas, and many diving operations shut down. Your sweet spot runs from November through April - dry weather, calm seas, and perfect diving conditions.

December through February brings the coolest temperatures and lowest humidity, making it peak season with higher prices. March and April heat up but still offer excellent conditions with potentially better accommodation deals.

ATMs are readily available in the main hotel areas, though having some cash for smaller beachside vendors never hurts. English is widely spoken in hotels and tour operations, but learning basic Thai greetings goes a long way with local staff.
