Cocohut Beach Resort (also listed as Cocohut Village Beach Resort & Spa) is a four-star beachfront resort on Leela Beach, on the Haad Rin peninsula at the southern end of Koh Phangan. It has a private beach area, a pool, a spa and a restaurant, with rooms that range from hillside bungalows to a Luxury Beachfront Pool Villa. Haad Rin beach, home of the Full Moon Party, is about a five-minute walk away.
Rooms at Cocohut Beach Resort
The resort spreads across a slope running down to the sand, so the room you pick decides your daily experience. The listed categories include Superior and Hillside bungalows, Deluxe Bungalows with Garden View, Deluxe Double Rooms with Sea View, Villas with Sea View, a Junior Suite with Pool View, an Oceanfront Suite, a Family Room with Mountain View and the Luxury Beachfront Pool Villa. Trip.com notes balconies or terraces on many rooms, and the resort lists free coffee and tea in rooms.
Hillside bungalows and garden-view rooms sit higher up and involve steps. Sea-view and beachfront categories put you closer to the water and the sound of the waves. If the view matters, book a sea-view category rather than hoping for an upgrade. If you have a pushchair or a bad knee, ask where your room sits before you pay.
Location and getting there
The address is Moo 6, Haad Rin, on the quieter Leela Beach side. The resort is reached by road from Thong Sala, the main pier, by taxi or songthaew (shared pickup truck). Boats also run to Haad Rin pier, and the Haad Rin guide covers the crossings from Koh Samui. Trip.com lists a resort shuttle with a surcharge, so ask before you arrive. Check-in runs from 14:00 to 23:30, which suits late ferries.
For more of the island, the Koh Phangan destination guide covers all the beaches. Day trips to Bottle Beach in the north or Zen Beach on the west coast need a scooter, taxi or boat.
Facilities
Facilities listed by the resort and travel sites include a pool, a private beach area, a restaurant serving Thai, Mediterranean and international dishes, two bars (one by the pool, one on the beach), the Cocohut Spa, a fitness room, a garden and playground, a tour desk, room service, free parking and Wi-Fi. Snorkelling and diving can be arranged through the tour desk. Breakfast is Asian, American and vegetarian.
- Private beach area and pool, with a five-minute walk to Haad Rin
- Wide room range, from hillside bungalows to a beachfront pool villa
- On-site restaurant, bars and spa, so you can stay in without a scooter
- Family rooms, a playground and a quieter bay than Haad Rin Nok
- Hillside rooms mean steps and a climb back up from the beach
- Haad Rin gets loud and crowded around Full Moon Party dates
- Beyond Haad Rin you need a taxi, scooter or boat
- Pets are not permitted, and the front desk does not run all night
Who Cocohut Beach Resort suits (and who it doesn’t)
It suits couples and families who want a swim-from-your-room beach base with Haad Rin’s bars and restaurants close by. It works well for first-time Koh Phangan visitors who plan to go to the Full Moon Party but want to retreat afterwards. Pool villa guests get more privacy.
It is a poor fit if you want a silent retreat during party week, a beach with calm, clear swimming at every tide, or a place you can walk from without hills. For a cheaper stay in the same area, compare Little Paradise Haad Rin.
Insider Tip: Full Moon Party dates fill the Haad Rin peninsula weeks ahead, and the boats are crowded the day before and after. If you only want a quiet beach week, pick dates away from the full moon.
