Ban Nam Rap Rafting

ชุมชนบ้านน้ำราบ

Trang Reviewed Jun 2026
Daily 10:00-16:00

Despite the name, Ban Nam Rap is not whitewater rafting — it is a community-run boat trip through the mangrove forest on the coast of Kantang district, Trang. Local guides take small groups by longtail boat and bamboo raft along tidal channels that wind through the mangroves, a flat and calm outing rather than anything with rapids.

The route threads a roughly two-kilometre mangrove “tunnel” where the trees close in overhead, then opens onto a tidal sandbar — a strip of sand that surfaces at low water — and passes a crab nursery where the community raises horseshoe and blue swimming crabs as part of a conservation effort. A short climb up Khao Chom Pa, an 84-metre limestone hill, gives a 360-degree view over the mangroves and the coast.

Because the sandbar and parts of the channel depend on the tide, trips are timed around low water, so this is a pre-booked community tour rather than a turn-up activity — contact the group ahead for the day’s timing and the current rate, which is usually charged per boat. The setting is coastal mangrove, not mountain river: expect sun, mud and still water rather than thrills.

Ban Nam Rap is in Bang Sak, on the Kantang coast south of Trang town, reachable by car in under an hour from the city. Bring sun protection, water shoes and a dry bag, and aim for low tide to get the full route.
