Bang Khla Floating Market

Bang Khla Floating Market is a weekends-only market on the Bang Pakong River in Chachoengsao province, run by the local municipality since 2007. Rather than boats weaving through narrow canals, the market is built on floating platforms and covered rafts moored along the riverbank, with vendors selling fruit, cooked food and household goods from stalls set on the water. It’s free to enter and open Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays only, 08:00 to 16:00.

Stalls line the wooden walkways and rafts extending over the river, selling seasonal Chachoengsao produce alongside grilled river fish, noodle dishes and Thai sweets cooked to order. A handful of boat vendors work the water close to the platforms, but most of the trading happens from the fixed stalls rather than moving boats — a different rhythm from the canal markets further south. Locals from Bang Khla town do genuine weekend shopping here alongside the visitors, which keeps the pace unhurried rather than performance-driven.

Shade cloths cover most of the walkway, but the open sections over the water still get warm by late morning, so the first couple of hours after opening are both the coolest and the busiest for fresh stock. Because it’s a municipal-run market rather than a private tourism venture, it can feel sparser on a quiet Saturday than on a public-holiday weekend, when Bangkok day-trippers pad out the local crowd.

Watch out: This is a real neighbourhood market, not a curated tourist experience — expect a modest handful of food stalls rather than the scale of Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa. Go for an easy, low-key riverside breakfast rather than a full day out.
