Cultural Exhibition Hall
หอวัฒนธรรมนิทัศน์
The Cultural Exhibition Hall sits inside the grounds of Wat Sri Khom Kham, on Phahon Yothin Road beside Kwan Phayao — the lake that shapes the whole town of Phayao. It’s open Wednesday to Sunday, 08:30 to 16:30 — closed Monday and Tuesday — with entry at 20 THB for Thai adults, 10 THB for children and monks, and a flat 40 THB for foreign visitors.
Inside, the collection runs through Lanna-era wood carving, hand-woven textiles, religious sculpture, and ceremonial objects gathered from around Phayao province, alongside exhibits on the town’s own history — the old market district and the temple’s own long ties to the site. The galleries are modest in scale next to national museums in Chiang Mai or Bangkok, but the collection is specific to Phayao in a way those bigger institutions aren’t: masks, temple banners, and everyday tools that rarely turn up outside this province.
Insider Tip: Pair the visit with Wat Sri Khom Kham’s own main hall next door, home to the largest Chiang Saen-style Buddha image in the old Lanna kingdom — the two sit on the same grounds, so there’s little reason to see one without the other.
Morning visits are quieter; school groups tend to arrive after 10 AM on weekdays. Kwan Phayao runs along the temple’s edge, so a walk on the lakeside promenade fits naturally before or after the gallery.
Watch out: the hall isn’t fully air-conditioned — some rooms rely on natural ventilation, so a hot April afternoon is considerably less comfortable than a cool-season morning.
