Kaeng Luang Dinosaur Forest Park

Kaeng Luang Dinosaur Forest Park protects a genuine sauropod fossil site near Ban Nong Klang in Phayao’s Chiang Muan district — not a themed dinosaur attraction, but the actual dig where northern Thailand’s first dinosaur bones were found. Geologists from the Department of Mineral Resources, led by palaeontologist Varavudh Suteethorn, excavated the remains between 2002 and 2009. The bones belong to a large, long-necked sauropod estimated at 15 metres or more in length, dating back over 130 million years. Entry is free, daily, 08:30 to 16:30.

Set expectations correctly before the drive out: this is a modest, quiet site built around the exposed fossil bed, with signage explaining the geology and the discovery — not a walk-through museum or a sprawling forest trail network. The appeal is standing at the actual excavation point rather than looking at a cast in a city museum.
