Khlong Rahaeng Old Market is a century-old canal-side market in Rahaeng subdistrict, Pathum Thani, fronting Wat Bua Kaew Khet along the Khlong Rahaeng canal. It opens only on weekends, roughly 08:00-17:00 Saturday and Sunday, and entry is free.

The market is mostly a walking market rather than a floating one — vendors sell from wooden shophouses and stalls built along both banks of the canal, connected by wooden walkways, with a boat pier near the temple for the canal’s remaining boat traffic. Some shops here have operated for more than 90 years, selling fishing equipment, agricultural tools, and traditional Chinese medicine alongside homemade Thai snacks and desserts. A canal-side restaurant near the market has served food for generations and remains a draw on its own.

Insider Tip: Come before 10am. The market is small enough that it can feel sleepy by midday once the weekend crowd from nearby areas thins out, and the food stalls sell out of their best items early.

Once an important waterway trading link connecting Pathum Thani to neighbouring provinces, the canal has seen commercial boat traffic decline over the decades, and the community has leaned into preserving the market as a cultural heritage site rather than a working transport hub. Wat Bua Kaew Khet, the temple the market fronts, is worth a short look on its own if you’re already there — it’s the anchor the whole market grew up around.

Watch out: because it’s genuinely a local weekend market and not built for tourists, don’t expect English signage or card payment — bring cash and be ready to point at what you want.

There’s no direct public transit to the market, so a taxi or private car is the practical way in from central Pathum Thani or Bangkok.
