Krabi Walking Street

ถนนคนเดิน กระบี่

Krabi Town Reviewed Jul 2026
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 17:00-22:00
Entry Free

Krabi Walking Street takes over Soi Maharaj 8, a lane behind the Vogue Department Store in Krabi Town, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from about 17:00 to 22:00. Entry is free. It’s been running since 2013, and food stalls make up most of the roughly 50-70 pitches — this is a place to eat as much as to browse.

Southern Thai staples dominate the food side: pad thai cooked to order in woks, grilled seafood (shrimp, crab, clams and whole fish), papaya salad, satay skewers and mango sticky rice. Several stalls do a vegetarian pad thai. Prices are low — most dishes run under 60 THB — and the food turns over fast enough that nothing sits under a heat lamp. The usual approach is to graze from stall to stall rather than order a full meal at one, then carry your plates to the communal tables in the central square.

The non-food stalls sell handmade jewellery, batik clothing, wood carvings and souvenirs, with quality that varies a lot from one vendor to the next — it’s worth a full lap before buying rather than committing at the first stall that catches your eye. A covered stage in the plaza runs live performances each evening: local singers covering Thai and English songs, the occasional traditional dance set, and sometimes children performing to raise money for their schools. The crowd is a mix of local families and tourists, and the tone stays relaxed rather than boozy — there’s no real bar scene here.

Insider Tip: Arrive right at 17:00 if you want the stalls before the queues form at the popular grilled-seafood carts — by 19:00 the best-known stalls can have a genuine wait.

Watch out: Card readers are rare. Bring cash, and small notes if you can — some stalls struggle to break a 1,000 THB bill early in the evening before they’ve built up change.

Getting there

The market is walkable from most Krabi Town guesthouses. From Ao Nang, shared songthaews to Krabi Town run regularly and take about 30 minutes (30-50 THB). The riverside pier at Jaofa Port and Krabi Town Mosque are both within a five-minute walk. View on Google Maps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Krabi Walking Street open every night?
No — only Friday, Saturday and Sunday, roughly 17:00 to 22:00. On other nights Soi Maharaj 8 is an ordinary street with the shops and department store open as usual.
Do I need to pay to get in?
No. There's no entry fee or ticket — you pay only for what you eat or buy. Bring cash, since most stalls don't take cards.
Is it worth going if I'm staying in Ao Nang rather than Krabi Town?
Yes, if you have a free evening — shared songthaews from Ao Nang to Krabi Town run regularly and take about 30 minutes (30-50 THB). It's a reasonable add-on to a Krabi Town evening rather than a special trip on its own.
What food should I try there?
Grilled seafood (shrimp, crab, whole fish), pad thai cooked to order, papaya salad and mango sticky rice cover the southern Thai basics. Several stalls do vegetarian pad thai. Portions are small and cheap, so plan to graze across several stalls rather than fill up at one.
Is it good for kids?
Yes — it's low-key and pedestrian, with a stage that often features children performing to raise money for local schools, plus the usual singers and occasional traditional dance. Not a late-night scene.
