Laem Krating Cape
แหลมกระทิง
Laem Krating is a clifftop viewpoint on Phuket’s southwestern coast where limestone cuts straight down into the Andaman Sea, reached by a genuinely difficult cliff-edge walk rather than a road. There’s no fee and no facilities — this is a free, unofficial trail, not a managed park.
The route starts at Nai Harn Beach, follows the road past Ao Sane, continues along the coastline past the Baan Krating Phuket resort, and then picks up an unmarked path over rock, grass and scrub for another 30-35 minutes. It’s a scramble in places, not a stroll — expect uneven footing, some exposure near the cliff edge, and no signage once you’re past the resort frontage. The payoff is an open view over the Andaman that takes in Laem Phromthep (Promthep Cape) and a scatter of small islands to the south, with the sea breaking directly on the rock face below.
Watch out: The cliff edges are unfenced and the path isn’t maintained. Sturdy shoes with real grip are worth the effort, and this isn’t a spot to attempt in the rain, at dusk, or alone if you can help it — a slip here is a serious problem given how remote the trail is.
Because it’s undeveloped and hard to reach, Laem Krating stays quiet even when Nai Harn Beach below is busy. Sunset is the most popular time for the light on the water and the more comfortable temperature, though the trail back in fading light adds its own risk — plan to be off the cliff path before it gets properly dark. October to May, Phuket’s dry season, is the easier and safer window; the wet season’s slicker rock and lower visibility make the scramble riskier for limited reward.
Insider Tip: Combine the trip with a stop at Ao Sane on the way out or back — it’s directly on the route from Nai Harn Beach, and gives you a sheltered swim and free shore snorkeling to recover with before or after the cliff walk.
- Entry fee: Free — no gate or facilities
- Access: On foot only, via Nai Harn Beach → Ao Sane → past Baan Krating Phuket resort → 30-35 min unmarked cliff path

- Nearby: Ao Sane beach, directly on the route
Laem Krating sits within the Nai Harn area, about a 20-minute drive from central Phuket to the trailhead at Nai Harn Beach.
