Laem Sing

Laem Sing, commonly spelled “Laem Singh” by visitors, is a small cove between Surin and Kamala beaches on Phuket’s Andaman coast, in Choeng Thale subdistrict, Thalang district — not the Laem Sing in Chanthaburi, an unrelated cape and 1834 fort on the Gulf coast roughly 700 km away that happens to share the same Thai name (แหลมสิงห์).

Getting here changed in 2017. The old staircase down from the coastal road closed that April after a land dispute, and the land was later sold to a hotel group — there is still no direct road or path down to the sand. Two options remain: walk the rocky coastal route from the south end of Surin Beach, past Patcharin Seafood restaurant, a climb over boulders at the start that’s easier at low-to-mid tide and takes 15 to 20 minutes each way; or take one of the small boats that run from the same spot on Surin Beach, around 100 THB per person one-way, or roughly 400 THB to charter the whole boat, a few minutes across the water with no extra charge for the return leg. Boats pause in rough weather during the monsoon.

The beach itself stays small and undeveloped by design: clear water, a narrow strip of sand backed by rock outcrops, and enough distance from the road that crowds thin out even in high season. One small Thai restaurant serves food on site, cash only, along with occasional vendors and a masseuse or two; there’s no toilet block, shop or ATM, so plan accordingly.

Watch out: Wear proper shoes for the coastal walk, not flip-flops — the rocks at the Surin end are slick even at low tide, and it’s an awkward scramble in sandals.

Insider Tip: If you’re not confident on the boulders, the boat is worth the 100 THB. It’s genuinely only a few minutes and removes the only real physical barrier to visiting.

Entry to the beach itself is free, since it’s public land under Thai law even with the surrounding property in private hands. Pair a visit with Surin Beach itself, which has the restaurants, sunbeds and full facilities Laem Sing deliberately lacks — most visitors treat the two as one outing, basing themselves at Surin and walking or boating over for an hour or two at Laem Sing.
