Namtok Ton Tok

Namtok Ton Tok sits in Khao Banthat Wildlife Sanctuary near Ban Khuan Mai Dam, Palian district, Trang — a single-level waterfall where water spreads over granite rock interlaced with limestone before settling into a shallow pool at the base. The layered rock, cut by years of running water into distinct ridges and patterns, is as much the draw here as the water itself.

The pool at the base is shallow enough for wading and safe swimming for most visitors, deepening slightly near the main flow. Flow is fullest during the rainy season, when the water runs in a fuller, whiter sheet across the rock layers; outside those months the fall thins but the site stays open and accessible year-round. A short forest trail connects Ton Tok to Namtok Ton Tae, roughly a kilometre away, which at around 320 metres is the tallest waterfall in Trang province — most visitors who make the trip out to Palian combine both falls in a single visit rather than seeing just one.

Insider Tip: Ton Tok gets a fraction of the visitors that its taller neighbour Ton Tae attracts. If you only have time for one, Ton Tok’s shallow pool is the better choice for swimming; walk the connecting trail to Ton Tae afterward if you want the taller, more dramatic fall without a second entry fee.

Watch out: The layered rock around the pool is uneven and can be slick where water runs over it. Water shoes make a real difference here — flip-flops slide on the wet stone.

Palian sits away from Trang’s better-known coastal sights — pair a visit with the wider Trang area if you are exploring inland waterfalls rather than the province’s islands and beaches.
