Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach is the four-kilometre stretch of sand that gave the city its name — a shallow crescent along the Gulf of Thailand, backed by Beach Road, running from the northern hotel strip down to Walking Street and Bali Hai Pier. It’s free, open around the clock, and the busiest stretch of coast within day-trip range of Bangkok.

Watersports operators line the sand with jet skis, parasailing rigs, and banana boats rather than one central booth. Expect to pay roughly 800-2,500 THB for a jet ski session and 600-1,500 THB for a parasailing flight — prices aren’t fixed, so agree the duration and price with the operator before you get in the boat, and photograph any existing scratches on a jet ski before you take it out. Longtail boats moored along the shore run island-hopping trips out to Koh Larn and the smaller islands offshore, usually cheaper if you join a shared boat rather than charter one alone.

This is a working city beach, not a swim-first destination — the water is serviceable for a cool-off but carries more boat traffic and sediment than the clearer water south at Jomtien or out at Koh Larn. Rows of rental chairs and umbrellas run the length of the sand at a standardised rate — 50 THB for a beach chair, 100 THB for a lounge bed, set by the city across the numbered vendor stalls rather than negotiated per operator. Between the chairs, vendors walk the sand selling grilled seafood, fresh fruit, and coconuts. Beach Road itself runs the full length of the sand, and after dark it feeds straight into Pattaya’s Walking Street at the southern end for anyone continuing on to the city’s nightlife strip.

Insider Tip: Get there before 8am if you want the beach without the chair-and-vendor crowd — it’s the one window when the sand is closer to empty and the light along Beach Road is best for photos.

Watch out: Jet ski rental disputes are a known issue on Thai tourist beaches — operators sometimes claim pre-existing damage after your session to demand extra payment. Photograph the vehicle before you ride and agree the price in writing or on your phone if you can.
