Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahisornpakdee Monument

A bronze statue of Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahisornpakdee stands in a public park on Trang-Phatthalung Road, about 1km from Trang’s provincial hall. He governed Trang from 1890 and is remembered locally as the man who brought the province its first rubber trees. Entry is free, and the park stays open 05:00-20:00 daily.

The statue shows him in formal Thai court dress on a raised pedestal, cast in bronze and set within an open plaza rather than tucked inside a temple or museum building. Bilingual plaques at the base give a short account of his governorship. There’s little shade around the pedestal itself, so the open ground heats up fast once the sun is past mid-morning.

Trang keeps two other memorials to the same man, and it’s easy to mix them up. His actual residence, now the Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi Museum, stands about 25km south in Kantang — walk through the rooms where he lived, rather than just the statue that commemorates him. A second, later monument marks his time as High Commissioner of Monthon Phuket, on Rang Hill in Phuket Town. Trang also has a separate curiosity: a 43cm miniature monument to him inside a forest reserve outside the city, promoted as the world’s smallest — a different site entirely from the park statue described here.

Insider Tip: Combine the monument with a walk through central Trang’s market streets a few blocks over. It sits close enough to town that both fit into one stop without needing transport.

The monument works as a stand-alone stop on foot or by songthaew if you’re already staying in central Trang, with roadside parking near the park. Early morning or after 17:00 avoids the worst heat, since the plaza has no significant tree cover. Allow 10-15 minutes — this is a photo-and-plaque stop rather than a lingering visit, and it pairs naturally with a wider day around Trang.
