Chiang Mai Temples and Market Tuk Tuk Evening Night Tour is the earlier night-market version of this after-dark route. Expect temple stops, tuk-tuk transfers and market browsing before the city fully winds down.

Take the ‘Tuk-tuk tour Chiang Mai by Night’ and see the ‘Rose of the North’ after sunset, when the busy city slows down and the temperature is pleasant. Visit quiet temples that are lit up after dark and stroll around Chiang Mai’s night market to try local food. There are photo stops at some of Chiang Mai’s most intriguing spots. The tuk-tuk drives through the streets to take in the local atmosphere. The local guide tells interesting stories about the places passed and about Chiang Mai in general.

NOTES: The entrance fees for Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang (THB 50 per person, per temple) are NOT included in the tour price and must be paid in cash on the day of the tour.

On Sundays, the Sunday Walking Street takes place in the center of Chiang Mai. This means it can be very busy and certain streets are closed for traffic. Please make sure to leave in good time to reach the meeting point.

Itinerary

1

Wat Phra Singh

Wat Phra Singh is one of the most famous and most attractive temples within the walled old city of Chiang Mai. The temple, which is also known as “The Monastery of the Lion Buddha” is an active temple, with many monks and novices living there. Wat Phra Singh dates back to the 14th century when Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, and is one of the finest examples of classic Lanna style temple architecture.

2

Wat Phan Tao

Wat Phan Tao is one of the oldest temples in Chiang Mai. The temple's first structures were built probably in the late 14th century. Located within the old walled city, just next to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao is well known for its exquisite Lanna-style 'viharn', the ordination hall, entirely made of teakwood on a stone base.

3

Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara

Wat Chedi Luang, also known as “The temple of the Great Stupa”, is an impressive temple ruin. The construction of the temple lasted from 1391 to 1475. Although the temple collapsed in 1545 due to an earthquake, it was for centuries the tallest building in Chiang Mai. The massive and very impressive chedi (pagoda) dominating the area is its most prominent feature. Wat Chedi Luang is also famous for once housing the Emerald Buddha, one of the most important religious relics in Thailand, which can now be found in the Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

4

Wat Lok Molee

Just outside the old walled city center of Chiang Mai, Wat Lok Molee is one of the city’s older temples. The temple that is also known as the Wat Lok Molee houses one of the largest and most impressive chedis in Chiang Mai. The massive chedi was built in 1527 when it must have dominated the area. The chedi contains the ashes of several Kings of the Mengrai dynasty, who ruled the Lanna Kingdom from the end of the 13th century until 1558 when the Burmese invaded the Kingdom.

5

Night Bazaar

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is the most famous market in Chiang Mai, and one of the top tourist attractions in the city. This night bazaar consists of street-side stalls selling mostly clothing and handicrafts. You will also find a wide range of (street)food and snacks at the market. Here the group has a simple meal and a dessert. After that, it's time to say goodbye to your guide. You can take a tuk-tuk back to your hotel (not included) or further explore the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on your own.
