JJ Beach Resort & Restaurant sits directly on Aow Yai Beach on Koh Phayam — walk out your door and you’re on the sand. The speedboat from Ranong takes about 35 minutes, and the resort can arrange tickets along with an island taxi or airport transfer; if you’re weighing the slower boat instead, check the current schedule when you book rather than planning around an old estimate.
Rooms and Water Sports
Accommodation splits into five groups — Deluxe Bungalow, Luxury Bungalow, Rooftop Villa, Beachfront Villa and Family Bungalow. The Family Bungalow has two king beds and sleeps four; ask about exact bedding and size for the other categories when you book, since names vary a little across booking sites. Every room gets a fan, fridge, balcony and Wi-Fi, but air conditioning and hot water depend on which category you pick, so read the room description rather than judging by the name alone.
Beyond the rooms, there’s a restaurant and bar, beachfront massage, a minimart, laundry, scooter rental and room service. The beach itself is set up for more than sunbathing — surfing, bodyboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing and windsurfing are all on offer, and conditions shift with the season, so don’t assume flat, swimmable water every day.
Insider Tip: Ask specifically about air conditioning, hot water and how close your room sits to the water — “Villa” alone doesn’t say if you’re on the rooftop or right on the beach.
The seafood restaurant is the other draw: southern Thai cooking served a few steps from the sand. If you’re not staying here but want to eat, call ahead rather than turning up expecting a table.
