Lipe Beach Resort is a 3-star bungalow resort on Sunrise Beach, on the northern side of Koh Lipe in Thailand’s Andaman Sea. The beach faces east, so mornings start with the sun coming up over the water. The resort runs wooden and bamboo bungalows from basic garden rooms to beachfront units, plus a beach bar and restaurant.

The room list is long, and the differences matter more than the names suggest. The cheapest category is the Garden Room with fan and no hot shower. Step up to the air-conditioned Garden Room or the Premium Garden Bungalow and you get cooling, but you are still behind the beachfront row. The SeaBreeze Deluxe, Deluxe Plus and Premium bungalows sit closer to the water.
The Beachfront group is the main draw: Deluxe, Deluxe Plus, Wooden and Premium bungalows with a balcony facing the sand. A Family Room with air conditioning sleeps more than the standard double. Every room has a private bathroom, and the resort offers free WiFi, though guests report it is patchy.
Location and getting there
The resort says it is a ten-minute walk to Walking Street, and Booking.com gives about 0.7 miles to the Lipe floating pontoon where speedboats and ferries from the mainland arrive. Koh Lipe is small and there are no cars, so you walk, hire a longtail or take a motorbike taxi with luggage. Ask the resort about its airport shuttle when you book.

Facilities
On site you get a beach bar and restaurant serving Thai and European food, laundry, a tour desk for island-hopping trips, kayaks and a snorkelling set-up. The resort also has CCTV and a bar. There is no pool. The beach is the pool.
Who Lipe Beach Resort suits (and who it doesn’t)
It suits couples and friends who want to wake up on the sand and do not need much more than a bungalow, a balcony and a beach bar. Snorkellers will like the reef just offshore. It is a weaker fit for anyone who wants hotel-style service, good soundproofing or a pool. Wooden bungalows with gaps let in insects and early boat noise, and some guests mention uneven restaurant service.

What it is like to stay here
Days here follow the tide and the boats. Morning is the best part: the beach is quiet, the light is low and longtails head out to the neighbouring islands. By midday the shade from the mature trees around the bungalows matters. In the evening you walk to Walking Street for dinner or stay put at the beach bar.
