Moonlight Bay Resort (formerly Moonlight Exotic Bay Resort) is a 3-star resort on Klong Toab beach in Ban Klongtob, on the quiet southwest coast of Koh Lanta Yai. It has 18 garden-wing rooms with a pool of their own and 26 bungalows and villas spread across the hillside and the shoreline, plus a beachfront restaurant and bar, a gym and a massage hut.
Rooms at Moonlight Bay Resort
The room you pick decides the stay, because the site is a hill running down to the sea. The Deluxe Double Rooms with pool view or pool access sit on the flat, so they are the easy choice if steps are a problem. Bungalows come with garden view or partial ocean view, and the partial-sea-view bungalow draws praise from guests for its outlook.
The villas are the step up: Villa with Sea View, Deluxe Villa, and the Villa - Beach Front, which sits at the water’s edge. Guests mention king-size daybeds on the decks. The Two-Bedroom Villa has a king bed and two twin beds, which makes it the one for a family or two couples. Rooms have balconies or terraces, and tea and coffee makers.
Several room types are not suitable for guests with reduced mobility, namely the bungalows, the Deluxe Villa, the Villa with Sea View and the Two-Bedroom Villa. Electric caddies ferry guests up to the villas.
Location and getting there
Klong Toab is a quiet bay, not a resort strip. The resort says the town centre is about 15 minutes away and Krabi Airport about 90 minutes by road. Booking.com gives Klong Nin Beach at roughly 900 m and Klong Khong Beach at about 1 km, so a few cafes and restaurants are walkable. Mu Ko Lanta National Park lies further south, around 13 km by Booking.com’s figure; see our Mu Ko Lanta National Park guide. For the wider island, start with Koh Lanta.
The resort lists an airport shuttle and free parking. Ask what the shuttle covers before you arrive, and rent a scooter or car through reception if you want to move around the island.

- Breakfast is a buffet that guests rate well
Who Moonlight Bay Resort suits (and who it doesn’t)
It suits couples, honeymooners and older travellers who want quiet, sunset views and a restaurant on site. Guests describe it as tranquil and away from busy areas. It also works for a small group renting a villa.
Skip it if you want a long swimming beach on the doorstep, a nightlife scene, or lots to keep children busy. If you would rather have a private pool villa a little further along, see Kongsai Private Pool Villa in Klong Khong.
- Beachfront and hillside villas with sea views, including a villa right on the shore
- Quiet bay with little boat traffic and a private beach area
- Restaurant, bar, gym and massage on site, so you can stay put for dinner
- Guests praise the staff and the cleanliness
- Free on-site parking
- Hillside paths and steps to many bungalows and villas
- A small beach rather than a long swimming strand
- Town and airport are a drive away, so you need transport
- Not much organised for children
- Pets are not allowed
Insider Tip: Book a pool-access or pool-view Deluxe Double if you have luggage or mobility concerns, and book a Beach Front or Sea View villa only if you are happy with steps. Send your arrival time ahead, because check-in closes at 21:00.
