The Route

The crossing to Koh Mook takes under 30 minutes. At the Emerald Cave you put on a life jacket and swim with the group through an 80-metre tunnel, lit by headlamps, until daylight opens onto a small beach and lagoon walled in by cliffs and forest.

The boat moves on to Koh Kradan for snorkelling over a shallow reef, then lunch on the beach and an hour to swim or lie on the sand. The afternoon brings a second snorkel stop at Koh Chuak and an hour on Koh Ngai before the run back to Lanta.

Watch out: The national park closes the Emerald Cave for part of the monsoon season each year. Check the dates on our Emerald Cave page before booking between June and September.

Who It Suits

It suits families with children over 3, snorkellers, and anyone on Lanta who wants the Trang islands in one day. It isn’t for pregnant travellers, the over-70s, or anyone with back or neck problems.

Insider Tip: Bring cash for the park fees and a dry bag for your phone. The cave swim is the one stop where everything gets wet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is pickup and when do I get back?
Pickup on Koh Lanta runs from 8am to 9am, and you are back at the hotel between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. The operator confirms the exact time by email.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer for the Emerald Cave?
No. You swim the 80-metre tunnel in a life jacket, as a group, with headlamps. It is dark for a short stretch, which some people find unnerving.
Are national park fees included?
No. Park entrance fees are paid separately on the day, so bring cash in baht.
How many people are on the boat?
Up to 35. The tour needs at least 15 to run.
Who should skip this tour?
The operator does not take pregnant travellers, children under 3 or travellers over 70, and advises against it for anyone with back or neck problems: speedboats bounce in any swell.
