Dhamma Park and Arts Chamber

Dhamma Park and Arts Chamber is a private sculpture and art park in Lamphun built around Buddhist teachings rather than a commercial gallery’s rotating shows. Thai National Artist Inson Wongsam founded it in 2000 together with English sculptor Venetia Walkey, on garden grounds just off Highway 106 near Pa Sang market. Entry is free, but access is limited: the park opens to drop-in visitors only on Saturday and Sunday, 10:00-16:00, and any other day requires calling at least three days ahead.

Walking the grounds, you’ll pass permanent sculptures set among the trees rather than paintings hung on gallery walls — among them a footbridge named for the Noble Eightfold Path, one of several pieces built directly into the landscape. Indoor display chambers, the “Arts Chamber” of the name, hold paintings and sculpture that interpret Buddhist ideas like mindfulness and compassion through more conventional gallery presentation. The pace is unhurried by design: rooms and outdoor spaces are meant to be moved through slowly, in keeping with the park’s stated purpose as a centre for art, meditation, and environmental study.

The atmosphere favours quiet reflection over quick sightseeing — this isn’t a stop you rush through between temples. Because it runs on limited public hours and advance reservations rather than a full-time visitor operation, it’s worth calling ahead even on a weekend to confirm it’s still keeping to its published schedule before making the trip out from town.
