Hat Saen Suk Lampam

Hat Saen Suk Lampam is a shoreline park on Songkhla Lake (Thale Luang), about 8 km from Phatthalung town along Apaiborirak Road. This is a lake beach, not a sea beach — Songkhla Lake is Thailand’s largest natural lake, shared between Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces, and the water here is calm, flat, and freshwater rather than tidal. Entry is free.

Rows of pine trees shade a public park built along the shore, where locals come to walk, exercise, swim, and relax rather than sunbathe on open sand. The lake stays calm most of the time, and small islands sit visible about 40 metres offshore. The park showcases Phatthalung’s cultural identity through statues of Manora dancers and shadow-puppet figures — Manora is the region’s signature traditional dance-drama — and a Thai-style pavilion called Sala Lampam Thi Rak connects by a short bridge on the north side of the road, giving a clear view out over the water.

Insider Tip: Around 20 food vendors line the park selling seafood and Thai dishes at local prices — it’s a better spot for an evening meal with a lake view than for sea-beach sunbathing.

Watch out: don’t expect Andaman-style turquoise water. This is a working lake shore used daily by the local community, so water clarity varies, and the appeal is the park, the culture, and the swimming rather than a postcard beach.

Weekday visits are quieter, with mostly local walkers and swimmers; weekends and evenings bring more families for picnics and the food stalls fill up. The dry season from roughly November to April brings the calmest water and clearest skies, though the park is used year-round. Getting there means a short drive or motorbike ride from Phatthalung town — there’s no direct public bus. Thale Noi, the wetland at the northern end of the same lake system, makes a natural pairing if you want to see more of the lake beyond the park.
