Kapo Waterfall Forest Park

Kapo Waterfall Forest Park protects a small, year-round cascade fed by Khao Kapo mountain, in Tha Sae district about 18 km from the district town. The waterfall itself is modest — a curved, weir-like drop roughly 20 metres wide and 2 metres high — set inside a shaded forest garden rather than a multi-tier jungle trek. Entry is free, and the park is open daily 08:00-18:00.

As a วนอุทยาน (forest park) rather than a national park, Kapo is managed more lightly than places like nearby Khao Sok: there’s no ticket booth, no entrance fee, and a smaller footprint of trails. The pool below the falls is shallow enough for wading and a quick cool-off rather than deep swimming, and the surrounding tree cover keeps the whole site shaded through the middle of the day — useful given how little else is nearby to shelter under.

Insider Tip: Because it doesn’t charge a fee or see tour bus traffic, Kapo draws mostly local families on weekends rather than international visitors. Go on a weekday if you want the pool closer to yourself.

Facilities are basic: a few rest pavilions (ศาลา) dotted around the grounds, and space for tent camping with the park office’s permission, but no restaurant or shop on site — the nearest options are back along Hong Charoen Road toward town. Bring your own water and food if you’re planning to stay through the day. Watch out: rocks around the fall edge get slippery when wet, and there’s no lifeguard or staffed swimming area, so keep an eye on kids in the pool.

Flow is strongest during and just after the rainy season, roughly June through November, and drops off noticeably by the end of the hot season in April and May. Cool-season mornings (November-February) are the most comfortable time to visit for temperature, even though the water runs lower than in the wet months. It’s reachable by car or motorbike from Chumphon city in about 30-40 minutes; there’s no public transport route to the gate.
