Koh Yang (Ko Kata)

Ko Yang stands out among Satun’s lesser-visited islands as a unspoiled retreat where clear turquoise waters meet powder-soft white sand beaches. This small limestone island offers an authentic taste of the Andaman Sea’s natural beauty without the crowds that flock to more famous destinations. The island’s compact size makes it perfect for exploring on foot, while its surrounding coral reefs provide excellent opportunities for underwater adventures just meters from shore.

Crystal-clear waters reveal colorful coral gardens teeming with tropical fish, making snorkeling an effortless pleasure directly from the beach. The island’s main sandy stretch curves along the eastern shore, backed by swaying coconut palms and smooth limestone cliffs that provide natural shade. Swimming here feels like floating in a giant aquarium, with parrotfish, angelfish, and schools of yellow snappers gliding beneath you. The coral reef extends around much of the island’s perimeter, creating protected lagoons where the water remains calm even when seas are choppy elsewhere. Rocky tide pools at the island’s northern tip reveal hermit crabs, sea anemones, and colorful marine life during low tide.

Longtail boats from Pak Bara pier provide the most common access to Ko Yang, with the journey taking approximately 45 minutes depending on weather conditions. Since no accommodation exists on the island, plan for a day trip and bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection. The dry season from November to April offers the best weather and sea conditions for visiting. Pack snorkeling gear if you have it, though some boat operators provide basic equipment for exploring the surrounding reefs.
