Laem Tanyongpo and Hat Sai Yao

Laem Tanyongpo and Hat Sai Yao sit at the mouth of Satun Bay, where a low headland and a straight run of beach face the open Andaman Sea. This is one of the least developed coastlines in southern Thailand — no resorts, no beach bars, just a working fishing village tucked among coconut palms and a stretch of sand that rarely sees more than a handful of visitors at once.

Coconut palms line much of the shore, providing natural shade, and small wooden fishing boats work the shallows and the bay beyond. The village at Laem Tanyongpo itself runs on the rhythm of the fishing day rather than tourism — nets drying on racks, boats coming and going with the tide, and a scattering of simple houses facing the water. Hat Sai Yao continues the coastline behind the headland, a longer, flatter beach that’s better suited to a walk than a swim given the shallow, muddy stretches near the bay mouth.

Getting here takes some commitment: out of Satun town on Wiset Mayura Road (Highway 4051) for about 8.5 km, then a left turn and another 10 km to the cape itself. The isolation is the point — this isn’t a beach for sunbathing and snorkeling gear so much as a place to watch a working coastal community and catch a sunset with nobody else around.

Insider Tip: Evenings are the best time to come. The sun sets directly over the water here, and the silhouettes of longtail boats returning to the village make for some of the quietest, least-photographed sunset views in Satun province.

Watch out: Shade is limited once you’re away from the palm-lined sections, and facilities are minimal — bring water and sun protection, and don’t expect food or drink stalls beyond the village’s small local eateries. The final stretch of road can be rough after heavy rain.

Combine the visit with a stop in Satun town itself — the Kuden Mansion museum and Satun Central Mosque are both about a 20-minute drive back toward town and make an easy pairing on the same day trip.
