Nakhon Sawan Tower

Nakhon Sawan Tower is a 10-storey, 32-metre observation tower on Khiri Wong hill, next to Wat Khiri Wong in Nakhon Sawan. Entry is 20 THB, the same for Thai and foreign visitors, and it’s open Monday-Friday 10:00-16:30, with extended hours (10:00-18:00) on weekends and public holidays.

The ground floor holds a tourist information counter with local maps and route advice. The 2nd and 3rd floors have restaurants and an outdoor deck, a reasonable stop before the climb. From there, a spiral staircase runs from the 4th to the 9th floor, opening onto the 10th-floor deck — the actual reason to come. Telescopes there are set up for both daytime views over the Chao Phraya lowlands and night viewing of the town’s lights, and the tower runs occasional evening events on the deck.

Weekday mornings are quiet, mostly local visitors and the occasional school trip; the later weekend closing time exists specifically so people can catch the evening view, and that’s when the deck gets busiest. There’s no shade on the stair climb, so the cooler morning slots are more comfortable than a midday visit in the hot season.

The tower sits inside Mueang Nakhon Sawan district, close enough to the town centre that most visitors combine it with Bueng Boraphet, Thailand’s largest freshwater lake, or a stop at Sawan Park on the same side of town. Nakhon Sawan itself sits at the confluence of four rivers that form the head of the Chao Phraya, and the tower’s height makes it one of the few spots in town where that geography is easy to see at a glance.

Getting there from the town centre is a short drive up Khiri Wong hill, with parking available at the base. The tower is a separate structure from the neighbouring Wat Khiri Wong temple complex it shares the hill with, though the two are commonly visited together.

Insider Tip: Come for last light rather than midday — the 10th-floor deck is one of the only 360-degree viewpoints in Nakhon Sawan, and the weekend 18:00 closing time is built around catching the sunset from up there.

Watch out: On weekdays the tower closes at 16:30, well before sunset — if the night view is the point of the visit, go on a weekend or public holiday instead.
