Namtok Huai To

Namtok Huai To sits inside Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, a short drive north of Krabi Town, so the park entrance fee applies: 100 THB for foreign adults, 50 THB for foreign children, 20/10 THB for Thai nationals. It’s not the free roadside waterfall its reputation sometimes suggests — you pay at the park gate on the way in.

The waterfall drops through several rock-cut tiers, with the lower pools reached by an easy walk of a few hundred metres from the visitor centre — close enough that it isn’t the jungle trek some older write-ups describe. Cool, clear water collects in a pool at the base, shaded by forest and ringed by smooth boulders. Push further along the trail and it climbs past additional tiers, getting muddier and steeper the higher you go, with some sections needing hands-on scrambling over wet rock. Most visitors stop at the first pool or two; hikers who continue get quieter falls and fewer people.

Wildlife stays audible even when it isn’t visible — birdsong and the rustle of monkeys moving through the canopy carry over the sound of the water, and mist off the falls keeps the immediate area a few degrees cooler than the trail behind you.

Insider Tip: Visit on a weekday morning if you can — Khao Phanom Bencha’s other trails (including the summit route, which sees a separate seasonal closure) draw hikers on weekends, but the waterfall itself stays relatively quiet even in high season.

Watch out: The rocks around the pools are slick with algae and spray. Wear shoes with actual grip, not sandals, if you’re planning to get in the water or explore the upper tiers.

Combine the visit with Khao Phanom Bencha National Park itself if you want the summit trail or birdwatching beyond the waterfall, or head back toward town for Wat Tham Suea, Krabi’s other well-known nature-and-temple combination.
