Namtok Si Khit National Park

Namtok Si Khit National Park protects a seven-tier waterfall on the slopes of Khao Si Khoet, Sichon district’s highest point at 1,303 metres, in the Khanom area of Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Entry costs 100 THB for foreign visitors and 20 THB for Thai nationals, open daily 06:00-18:00. It sits about 40km from the provincial capital, well off the Khanom-Sichon beach circuit that draws most visitors to this stretch of coast.

The waterfall’s lower tiers are the easiest to reach and the most swimmable — wide, calm pools set among smooth limestone rock, shaded enough to stay cool through the middle of the day. Climbing to the higher levels takes more effort and rewards it with fewer people and better views back over the forest canopy. The surrounding rainforest holds enough bird life that local guides list hornbills among the regular sightings, and gibbon calls carry through the valley some mornings, though neither is guaranteed on any given visit. Rainy season swells the flow and makes for a more dramatic cascade, but it also speeds up the current in the upper pools.

Because it’s overshadowed by the beaches nearby, Si Khit gets a fraction of the visitors that Khao Luang or the coastal parks pull in. That’s the honest appeal — a working waterfall trail without the crowd management of a marquee attraction, which also means thinner signage and fewer staff around if something goes wrong.

Insider Tip: Visit on a weekday morning if you want the lower pools to yourself — weekend traffic from Nakhon Si Thammarat city picks up noticeably by midday.

Watch out: The rock around the upper tiers gets slick after rain, and there’s no lifeguard or regular ranger presence at the falls themselves — stick to the lower pools if you’re swimming alone or with children.

Bring sturdy shoes with grip, swimwear, and a waterproof bag for your phone — restrooms and a picnic area sit near the main entrance, but nothing beyond that once you’re on the trail. There’s no bus or songthaew route to the park, so a rented motorbike or car is the only practical way in from the city or the Khanom-Sichon coast. Hat Sichon makes an easy add-on if you want to pair the waterfall with a beach stop on the same day out.
