Rim Nam Market

Rim Nam Market runs along Thanon Dao Dueng on the Chao Phraya riverbank in Pak Nam Pho subdistrict, central Nakhon Sawan town. It dates to around 1887, during King Rama V’s reign, making it roughly 130 years old, and today operates as a night market from about 17:00 to 22:00 — it isn’t a daytime market. Entry is free.

More than 100 food stalls line the street after dark, alongside vendors selling clothing and jewelry. Grilled skewers, noodle stalls, and Isaan-style dishes like som tam turn up regularly among the food vendors, and the crowd builds from early evening through to close. It’s primarily a land-based street market today rather than a boat market — vendors work from fixed stalls along Dao Dueng Road, not from the water.

The market’s riverside position isn’t incidental. Nakhon Sawan sits at the confluence where four rivers join to form the Chao Phraya, and this stretch of riverbank was once a key stop for passenger boats before the Phahonyothin Highway and the Chao Phraya Dam, finished in 1957, shifted transport onto roads. That trading history is still part of the market’s identity, even though the boats themselves are largely gone from day-to-day business now.

Insider Tip: Go later in the evening, from around 19:00, when the widest range of food stalls are open and the riverside crowd is at its liveliest.

Watch out: the market doesn’t open until late afternoon — arriving at midday finds the street quiet with most stalls not yet set up.

Getting there means a short trip to central Nakhon Sawan town, not Chainat — Dao Dueng Road sits in Pak Nam Pho subdistrict, close to the river confluence in the middle of Nakhon Sawan itself. Bring small bills, since most stallholders don’t take cards.
