The Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand

The Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand runs a guided-tour dairy farm at Muak Lek, Saraburi — the site of Thailand’s original commercial dairy operation. A tour costs 150 THB for adults (120 THB students, 100 THB children over 90cm, 75 THB seniors, free under 90cm) and runs on a fixed schedule: six sessions a day, at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00, each lasting around 80 minutes.

The farm traces back to 1960, when King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit visited Denmark and took an interest in Danish dairy methods. The Danish government and Danish Dairy Farming Association partnered with the Thai government to set up the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm and training centre in Muak Lek, which King Bhumibol and King Frederik IX of Denmark jointly inaugurated on 16 January 1962. The operation later transferred to the Royal Thai Government as the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization (DPO), tasked with promoting dairy farming as an occupation and buying raw milk from Thai farmers.

Each guided session covers six stops: a natural-resource learning centre, cow milking, calf feeding, a documentary on the farm’s history, fish feeding, and a cowboy demonstration. Horse riding (50 THB per ride) and an ATV circuit (480 THB) are booked separately at the activity zone. Because it’s tour-only rather than a wander-in farm, timing a visit around one of the six start times matters more here than at most attractions — arriving between sessions means waiting.

The farm sits on Mittraphap Road in Muak Lek district, in the same cluster of Saraburi agritourism stops as Amphoe Muak Lek Grape Garden and Khun Malee Vineyard. A shop near the entrance sells the farm’s fresh milk and dairy products.

Insider Tip: Time your arrival to a tour start (9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00 or 15:00) — turning up between sessions means waiting up to an hour, since it’s guided-tour-only rather than a self-guided walk.

Watch out: Horse riding (50 THB) and the ATV circuit (480 THB) are charged on top of the 150 THB tour ticket, and the ATV alone can double a family’s spend.
